Natural Sunburn Protection and Treatment Practices

Conventional Sunburn Protection and Why It Causes Harm:


  • The rising popularity of sunscreen coincides with an increase in skin cancer rates
  • Sunscreen can be ineffective in frequent users
  • Sunscreens are potent free radical generators
  • Anything we apply on our skin ends up inside of our body


  • Prevent the natural detoxification of the liver by the sun

Synthetic Clothing

  • Increases the potential for blood clotting, thrombosis, and thrombophlebitis
  • Decreases the natural sensitivity of the skin
  • Prevents the release of toxins through perspiration, etc.

Natural Sunburn Protection:

  • Natural Clothing (cotton, linen, hemp, nettle, bamboo) especially of light colors
  • Limit exposure of bare skin to the Sun and/or gradually increase exposure to the Sun
  • Eat fruit, berries and vegetables with cooling properties that also hydrate the cells and insure their elasticity. Ex: watermelon, melon, cucumber, mint, cilantro


Natural Sunburn Remedies:

  • Eat foods with cooling properties such as fruit, berries, greens, cucumber, mint, cilantro, etc.
  • Apply to the sunburnt areas:
    • organic raw cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil
    • peppermint essential oil (can mix a few drops with coconut oil)
    • Golden Seal
    • Aloe Vera
  • Stay out of the Sun

Sometimes body temperature will increase as the toxins are being burnt by the Sun, and fever is the body’s response to the release of toxins.
